I think I'm gonna make Cozy

Do you think this is a good lace pattern to try? Simple YO's and the only thing I can't identify is PSSO.

I think I'll have to enlarge the width since it's fingerweight yarn. I think my SP3 yarn would look very pretty in that pattern.

Anyone know why it tells me to use circular needles?? It doesn't apeare to be worked in the round, weird.. it also doesn't say what weight yarn that stuff is. I hate that.

Update: I got so many helpful comments to this entry, and so fast to.. THANKS everyone. I may try to cast on tonight.. if I'm not to consumed by finishing up the front of fitz, which I am also excited about.

it does look gorgeous! i would like to make it, but i STILL do not have the time!

I believe they recommend a circular needle because of the number of stitches. On a straight needle, the stitches would have a tendency to slip off and also become really bunched up on the needle.

PSSO, stands for Pass Slipped Stitch Over. You're knitting along and the pattern tells you to slip one stitch onto the next needle (sl1)without knitting the stitch, then you would knit the next two stitches together (k2tog). Next you would pick up the slipped stitch from your left needle and slip it over the stitch you just knitted (PSSO), thus decreasing two stitches. It's making up for the 2 YO's (which makes a new stitch) in the pattern repeat. You will still have the same amount of stitches at the end of the row.

I'm sure this is clear as mud, but once you figure it out, it's really easy. You can probably find a good tutorial on-line.

PSSO stands for pass slipped stitch over. It's like binding off one stitch that had been slipped.
You'll probably be fine with straights if that's what you've got. I'd rather not crap 18" of knitting onto straights, but I have weak wrists. Looks like the yarn in the pattern is aran weight, 4.5 stitches/inch. You probably don't want to use a size 8 needle, or the foundation stitches will be so loose that it won't look as nice. I'd recommend size 4 or 5. You'll probably get something like 7 stitches/inch, so to get the same width you'd cast on 127 stitches. 18*7 +1. You need your cast on number to be a multiple of 6 plus one extra stitch.

Hello, I hope I'm able to get some insite on how to do a YO as the first action when knitting. I've looked all over the internet and can't find a tutorial showing how this can be gone. I would really appreciate help with this problem.
TIA,
Hugs,
C.
