LQS (local quilt store)

It seems that Quilters use MANY of the terms we knitters use.. FO's, UFO's.. all that stuff!

Here is the flannel and design for my newest creation I will work on this weekend!

Here is the fabric:

Here is my design, a 9 patch irish chain design:

Here is the actual pattern for the flannel:

Us post office

Us post office

It says "Install this side down" HAH, I kept pushing it and hearing nothing, so I sat there waiting for the lady to come.. I SENT OFF FOR MY PASSPORT!! YEAH!! Australia here i come!!

Colinette Wayfarer

Well I took the plunge and ordered this book. WHY did I order it? Well because sitting on my office bed is the AbFab kit with its glorious yarn, and AROUND MY NECK is a new hand made scarf from my secrete PAL!!!!!!!!!! I need to post pics, i got an awful headache so I didn't do it last night but my SP put together the CUTEST things ever. Bath salts and the MOST adorable sheep tree ornamante you have EVER seen!!!!!!!!

So then on another blog someone posts a pic to this book I have wanted with FINALLY a front view of the zip up everyone wants to make:

It will take like 8 or 9 skeins to make with Point 5 (which by the way is not itchy atleast this scarf isnt and I think it's point 5) and on most websites its $20 for ONE SKEIN!!! On ebay i saw it for $12 a skein.. I certainly won't be allowed to buy the yarn for that for a LONG WHILE YET! lol

So I'll save it for a "one day" project.

THANKS SP3! I'll thank you properly in a post with pics soon!!

modern art in quilts

How amazing is this?

Now tell me, what gets better then sitting on your special CHAIR, feet up on the ottoman, cup of hot Coco in hand, fleece throw on your lap, Sci-Fi channel playing a good show, knitting a no brainer never-ending multi-direction scarf.

ABsolutley FABulouse!

I am so (as Harry Potter would say) Redic-ulous!

In other news the second half of the Sci-Fi legend of earth sea thingy is one tonight! W00t!

Weekend Fun

I had a fun night last night going out to a birthday party at a dance club. It took me over an hour to get home and I drove by myself, not fun let me tell you. I wasn't supposed to drive at all but things got all mixed up. Either way it was great fun and excersize to dance with a good girl-friend of mine!

THEN yesterday I got a notice that my sewing machine, then TODAY I got CHAIR, you know, THE CHAIR. I already sat and knit in it some and it's PERFECT. I picked it out because it had low soft arm that would not keep my elbows to restricted. I was such a dork at the store sitting in all the stores pretending to knit lol.

Still waiting on my Ab-Fab kit, and the Sublime Stitching extra packs I ordered never came so Jenny Hart is gong to re-send them. Very nice of her to do it a second time. I do hope they come soon, I want to SEW!! I may emrboider another sqaure this weekend and make a pillow out of them just for fun when the machine comes. I think I'll make the Martha quilt smaller then the design sence it's my first quilt, and then that gives me fabric to play with. I'll need to buy a rotary cutter and a self healing matte soon! YAY!

I need to order smallville from Amazon.com for my mother for XMAS and then tonight I'm going to go to Victoria's Secrete to get some PJ's my sister wanted as her gift. Then I'll have everyone taken care of excluding my husbands side of the family, which I still am not sure what to do. His father, his cousin, his mom and step father, his step brother and her wife, and probably his step-sister. EEK!! I better get on it!

It's fun to drive for an hour at 2am!

Of Farbic & Fiber

That's my new tagline lol I have a feeling my blog will have lots of Fabric content as I dive into the world of sewing.

Phear not my knitting friends! I still have the passion. I knitted a WHOLE half of a hat and now comes fairisle and I'm a wee bit scared but I'm waiting till the weekend when I can really concentrate and do that part right.

With my $200 I decided to buy something TOTALLY crazy. A Gocco!! Whats a Gocco you ask? Well it's an amazing Japanese inventation that is just... well... amazing!

I purchased it from ThinkInk as it was least expensive there and also came with free shipping and a cool how to guide. I also got the Fabric Printing add on and some extra colors of Fabric Ink! $207 total, and they owe me $19.95 for shipping that was SUPPOSED to be free so it was really under $200!

A wonderful example of what can be done with this little machine is here but the really great thing I can do with it, is create my OWN clothing labels for things I knit! Everytime I order labels I spend $20 - $40 so I think this actually will save me money in the LONG run (if I get that far lol).

An extremly stupid conversation

I am waiting on like 5 packages in the mail and non have arrived! I am desprate for my Sublime Stitching patterns amungst the many other things that havn't come yet :(

In total I got $300 for my birthday from my parents and my aunt. YAY! What should I do with $300? Once my Ab Fab kit comes (lost in the mail??) I will have one of my most wanted knitting items... I feel to guilty to order any more crap for myself online. Maybe I'll go splurge on sewing supplies...

Funny Poem

What is a Damnit doll?

Whenever things don't go so well...
And you want to hit the wall and yell...
Here's a little dammit doll
That you can't do without.
Just grasp it firmly by the legs
And find a place to slam it
And as you whack the stuffing out
Yell, "DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT!"

Fun stuff!!

I was hoping to find a star pattern designer for sewing things. I found her! Amy Butler

If those patterns arn't enough to make you want to sew, what is?? I think if I don't get the quilting bug I am going to go bag making crazy! My dream is to be able to make my own vera Bradley!

Material Girls Quilts had her patterns the cheapest so i got the Runaway bag pattern along with a few yards of fabric.

Another source with better photos

Where has the pixie been?

Enjoying her birthday of course! I wasn't much in a mood to write any entries and I spent the majority of the weekend researching sewing machines sence hubby said he would get me one for XMAS!

I got the Spiderman II DVD and watched that on saturday, and also I got the AB FAB kit for that afgan, pics coming soon! SO HE DID get it for me :) YAY!

I FOUND OUT whom my secrete pal is. She has been SUCH a wonderful secrete pal. I could not have asked for someone sweeter.

Marie of Knitti-me (http://knitti-me.blogspot.com) is my SP3!!! I have yet to reveal myself to my pal, I have one last gift for her that i t hink she will really like... I was planning on revealing myself in the note I sent with it!

My sewing machine to be!
Kenmore Computerized Drop-In Bobbin Sewing Machine with 281 Stitch Functions - Pretty darn spiffy for $300 bucks! Comes with wonderful quilting things!

In knitting news I worked on on my fair isle hat and I have a cozy I need to make, I think i will use the same yarn and make it to match the hat. I'm skerrd about the fair-isle part I am almost up to! 1 inch more to go!

Progress!

S made me a lovely cake, mmmmm mmmm good. Home made frosting. FREAKIN YUM!! I ate a whole peice. I normally can't fit a whole peice of cake but I made it work this time! lol

She thought it was pretty funny I wanted sprinkles on it, well because I suppose it does make it look like a cake for a child, but HEY we are all children at heart! :)

When I charted out the pattern for the nintendo mushroom it was VERY obvious I had never knit fairisle before. No one mentioned it though. Lookey, I charted the numbers BACKWARDS!!

Okay so now its all fixed
mushroom_02.gif

Here is last nights progress

I attempted a fair isle swatch and it didn't go so well. I suppose I'll put in a very nice life line after the ribbing.

I'm such a bad girl...

I already snuck open the present from DH's parents (a top from talbots I will wear to work tommorow) and of course I already opened the present that came today from my parents. I got an AWSUME menorah (??) that matches the living room furniture. I'll take a pic when I light the candles. I also got $200 WOO HOO, some Hanukah jelly beans (blue berry and coconut lol) and a nice journal.

SO DH comes in and I want to show him sewing machines I have been looking at (we had a conversation on the phone on tuesday about weather I was still interesting in spinning wheels and I was telling him I was interesting in a sewing machine and he said that sounded better to get). So I didn't think much of it and then just now I am showing him the singer featherweight II and I was showing him how with a promotional 40% cupon from Joann's I can get it for $125 which is $50 cheaper then amazon's discounted price (normally $260) and he says "Yeah I went to singer's site and they where from like $500 to $5,000!".

SO! HE WAS AT THE SEWING MACHINE WEBSITE MUHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! I dunno what he did but I feel all SMART he smiles at me about 2 sentances later but I acted as if I didn't notice what he said. BUT YOU KNOW US WOMEN ARE SMART< WE CATCH THESE THINGS DONT WE!! Cause women hear EVERYTHING!@!! MUHAHAH!!

I think he likes to idea of me sewing because his grandmother had one and whenevr I bring it up he mentions her, and I know she was probably the most important women in his life as far as a women he looked up to and idolized. I like to think he see's some of her in me :) She was th sweetest women. I know that my grandmother sewed and crochetted. I wish I could have shared that more with her, and when I met DH's grandmother, I wasn't into it yet and wouldn't have thought to ask her.

Bettween the two of us, with 2.5 sets of parents we have 0 grandparents alive.

In knitting news I cast on and knit over an inch of DH's muchroom hat! w00t! I want to knit on my diakeito scarf but NOT ENOUGH time to do all this stuff! Tommorow is a HALF day for me cause well, its gonna be MY BIRFDAY!!! YEAH! and my SP3 has told me she sent me a b-day gift, in ADDITION to a last SP3 gift she is *finishing*. HOW EXCITING!! I LUV PRESSIES!!!!!! I LUV YOU ALL!! S has a cake for me tommorow. EVERYONE IS SO NICE I LUV YOU ALL!!

questions for sewers & quilters...

Anyone have any idea if this is a decent machine?

Beggnings

Click for a bigger view.

So here is the results of tonights work. You can see a um.. stack? (I'm sure there is some clever word) of the two fabrics? Both are 100% cotton because Hobby Lobby doesn't carry linen. Probably good because I am betting it would be more expensive. I wanted a solid for the base under color but well ya know you can't always get what you want. Anways I figured what the heck I can be creative right?

So the underside will be green and the whole front will be the white blocks with a 1" green edge. I have two green's picked out for thread color (that tower is in the lighter green) and it matches the bedroom sheets! So I'll wait for the other Sublime patterns to arrive before I do anymore. I hope I cut them correctly. When I dried them the 14" squares went all to hell and I was afraid I had ruined them. I guess once you cut it your not supposed to stick it in the wash without seamed edges... I am really good at learning the hard way.

First they didn't have linen, then the cool linen-like cotton/polyester mix I picked out had a defect so then I had to pick out another one.

Then the pattern called for 60" tall fabric and the ones at HB are 45" so we had to do math (I hate math) and then I had no cash for Taco Bell so I went to burger king and got stuck behind a women who ordered $25 worh of burgers all "have it your way" and all custom and the lady taking the order was a very sweet, young sounding southern bell who was just impossible to understand. It was her drawl and the way she spoke.

I now apprechaite those annoying quick people who spit your order back at you. I can follow that better then a long sentance filled with accented words. Pretty voice though. Needless to say I was aggrevated, but it was not going to ruin my day! French fries.. oh the evil goodness! BAD PIXIE!

Wednesday feels like monday

Well despite a not so happy morning at work, things turned out okay and I feel a bit better. My co-worker is going to BAKE me a CAKE on friday. I'm so excited!! She's also working on a beutiful shawl that I'll have to show you guys one day. She has caught the shawl knitting bug.

I think I'm going to buy a knit starter kit for my best friend whom lives about 8 hours from me. I'll get to see her this holiday and she said she would love to learn to knit. So I'm going to make her a big basket full of needles, patterns and lots of cheap yarn and then a few nicer yarns thrown in. She's extremly fickle with money and would kill me if I tried to give her yarn that cost $10 a skein. But of course being the yarn snob that I am, I'll throw in a few nice things. Of course the needles will be nice. Maybe a ChicKnits hat pattern and one set of addi circulars, and then I think some clover bamboo needles. I want to spread the knitting LOVE!!

I could buy her the stich'n'bitch book because it really is great to learn from. Eeek before I know it I'll have spent $100 lol. I better be careful!

So far my husband is taken care of for holidays gifts. I got him one large awsume gift (I don't want to say, on the off chanse he might read this) and then a second cute kids toy gift that just seemed lik something he would like.

My sister wants Victoria's Secreye Pajamas (easy to please) so I'll get those. I got her son (not even 2yo yet!!) some of those awsume red cardboard bricks that you can guild forts out of. I am waiting for those to arrive the mail!

For my mother I'm getting her the Smallville Season 3 DVD, and my sister has our dad covered.

That takes care of my family and just leaves my husbands family. Because they are NOT jewish that leaves a LOT more people to buy gifts for then I normally do. I don't mind I am just at a loss for what to get them.. Idea for inlaws??

I got a sister in law who is married but no one talks about her husband. I got a brother in law, just married and in a new house (we both laughed that we where going to get each other home deport cards.. CRAP now I gotta be creative!?!?) and then my husbands parents, and not to mention his real father (single) who he always seems to forget about but I feel it's my duty now to make sure something gets sent off properly.

I have... no idea what to do for all that.
