whirl-wind

well its been a busy week! Work has been nutty and busy (which is good excluding my trying to keep up) and I have knit this week (*gasp*). I am working on my AB-FAB and I'll show pics once I get a few more inches. It's so super faaaaaaab to knit with. I love changing yarns all the time, makes it easier to count rows haha.

My other problem is I had not knit in a few weeks so I don't know if I am purling right and after casting on 144 stitches and working like 20 rows I just said screw it and I'm just gonna do it how I am doing it. If i don't learn to just relax about this stuff I'll be stuck in a never ending cycle of not finishing things. Wish me luck!

There are rumors of an ice storm here in Georgia tonight so my hubby doesn't have school saturday, hopefully we will clean! I'm supposed to get my hair done at 1:15 saturday but I am worried I won't be able to drive into Atlanta. It's a long drive and one I don't want to make in ice. Maybe I'll make hubby come with me, HEHE!

I want to finish the flannel blanket before we leave for austrlia but that will probably take a nice 4 hours session of sewing, maybe longer. I'm not sure I will have the energy or time.

One thing I am happy about is I should get my P next week so that means I won't have it when I am in Australia (YAY!). I don't "regulate" it so I had been worried.

Anways, that's it for now! I'll have pics of AB FAB soon.

Today is a day.. yup

So a lot of knit bloggers are doing a kind of protest today as the president is being sworn in. I agree with the protest however I have decided not to link to the art work that is being shown along with the protest. It is a beutiful peice of work, a bunch of photos of the faces of fallen soldiers made up in the likness of the president.

While i do strongly feel a large amount of blame is on our president, I often look at him as his fathers puppet. I think it's dis-respecful. hitler was responsible for the death of many jews, but each officer in his army was JUST as responsible. Anways I don't think we can compare Bush to hitler but you get what I am saying.

I don't want this man as my president, but I respect the fact that he is and that for the next 4 years I have to deal with it.

I am angry we have soldiers dying for a war I simply don't believe in. I believe we as a nation are very capable of getting Bin Laden, without legions of soldiers. What is the CIA, the FBI and the like for? I think there are better ways to do things, more effective and intelligent ways.

I also don't believe it is our responsability to take over other countries and give them "freedom". All that money, all that effort would have been better spent on the Tsunami victims.

I'll shut up now, thanks for reading.

On January 20th, if you don't agree with bush's anogoration, or the war in iraq then join a bunch of us and speak your mind!

Crazy Daisey always says it better then I ever could so read her words instead of mine.

update: I took the mosaic photo down cause i decided it was disrespectful to the preseident.. even if i dont agree with anything he does.

It's nearly 11:30pm and this girl needs to be in bed

But I had to share, my FINISHED horse quilt top!! YAY! It's not been pressed yet and its a mess in my office, scraps everywhere but I'm all proud, it's far from perfect, but every imperfection gives this flannel soft snuggle quilt character! Besides, I'll get better with each one, not bad for 3 weeks into using a sewing machine if I do say so myself!!

Fun Sunday Sewing

Spent all this morning sewing and cutting...

Spent all yesterday morning winding my colinette AB FAB kit into usable balls (more tiring then sewing lol)

To make my sewing room complete, I want to put some pretty pictures up on the walls! Mmm.. I love my little office every day more and more!

Progress

First I give you ONE part of my last SP3 gift, she sent me this LOVLEY wooden sheep. He's sitting on my sewing desk. BEYOND adorable. I'll post pics of the other stuff as it comes up! I want to use the bath salts next so a photo will come soon.

Wonky reflection from the ruler, but anways.. that was from last night when I decided to go to sleep before I sewed anything more. Smart to know WHEN to stop!

Finally, my AWSUME first ever "pieced" quilt block! :)

the shameful truth

I have way to much yarn, I bought way to much yarn.

As the new year has come and the Tsunami disaster has struck and I watch video of people swept away and killed, I realize how shallow and self absorbed most of us are in our own lives, myself being an example of it.

So I am disgusted with myself for spending as much money on yarn last year as I did. I don't actually know how much but I'm sure I can take a gues or two and it doesn't make me feel better. On top of that fact I don't finish enough things to even justify it.

So this year I make a vow to myself to not let asthetic pleasures take over my life. I will knit, I will sew... but i will not amass large quantities of fabric and fiber as a way to make myself feel better. I will DO MORE instead of *wanting* to do more.

As thinking humans, in our existing culture.. it's just so facinating the importance we put on static material objects. My husband said last night. "All I need is you and the dog, and I'm good". I gave him a big hug, he said it out of no where to, while watching the news.

So in a related topic, while I am on this self hate binge.. I am having serious issues ordering a new computer. My old dell is nearly dead, and paid for. I have the cash to buy a new one. I want a laptop because I'm a little women and I need something easier to take places, and as I am a computer proffesional I don't want something cheap. I want something that costs 2.6K and I researched a while lot and thats simply the lowest I am willing to go on features..

so I have sat here for a month.. feeling frustrated.. I just can't seem to click the buy button, I feel like I don't deserver it after I realized how much yarn I have. I FEEL BAD about wanting to buy a new ocmputer. I can't shake the feeling.

43 things

This is a very cool site where you list 43 things you want to do in life, or whatever and see people have want to do the same things!

Make your own sewing table

Here is an awsume website some person made, showing how they turned a cheap ikea table into an awsume sewing table for their sewing machines.

a little bit of everything, and something called Quilt Binding

I still owe my SP3 a post with pics of all my WONDERFUL things.. so many handmade stuff.. soo cool.. I just found out the salts where made by her friend. I am so impressed and amazed by the things people make!! We are such crafty women, we should all be proud!!

I also want to do a entry on my "Print Gocco" which is just the coolest little SilkScreening doohicky that ever was invented. I'm going to make silksScreened t-shirts for my husband for when we go to austrlia so he can "brand" himself.. er.. "market" himself.. haha..

Last night I braved the wonderful world of BINDINGS on quilts. I had a huge problem the night before that put me in an awful mood. i sewed together about 5 strips of biased binding, then to make it easier I started sewing another set together. When it came time to put the two long strips together I couldn't make it work so they both faced the right way. Basically you have a side with the seams, and a smooth side, and it was like a puzzle and the biased 45 degree angles would only go together in a way that would have half of it facing the wrong way.

My GENIOUS husband suggested that because it was like a triangle and each end of the strip of cloth was facing an opposite direction, I should sew one more peice on one of the larger peices, hence flipping the angle of the end.. well if your still with me here.. lol he was RIGHT! I added one more strip to one of the longer ones and just like a puzzle the two larger ones fit together!!

Soooooooooooo I spent all last night pressing the 6 foot long strip in half, then sewing it to the front side of the quilt. Tonight I will be blind stitching the back, and wowo I will have an FO!!!!!!!!! Won't you be SO impressed??!!

Now lesson #2 I learned is that the book I have stinks.. because it told me to do a 2" binding and everyone I met online said they always do a 2.5" because it is better to have a little more, then a little less. I am concerned about it, but I never blind stitched before so.. the corner worry me! The book also showed how to join the bindings incorrectly because it showed it for straight binding, not biased binding.

Okay so yeah.. I really need to take some pictures and post my awsume new stuff!! BAD PIXIE!!
