Harry in a Hurry

Here is my progress on the HP scarf. Coming along slowly but surely (considering this length was frogged early in the week!)

Husband goes on a beer run (after atleast several hours on the phone with tech support for my broken computer), and the doggy's watch him leave:

If you click it and view the larger one you can see Toby making an adorable "sniff the air" face.

Knits for the man in your life, and other stuff

I would like to add this pattern to my stash one day:

Sirdar Denim Sport Aran 8420

My husband got us some toilet paper the other day, and I just went to go get a roll. He didn't get the kind we normally get. He got one with a golden retriebver on the outside of the plastic. Talk about smart marketing. He never would have gotten that brand had it not been for the puppy!

Also I was reading Nanyc Bush's Folk Socks and I can't begin to tell you how much I love reading this book! It's so fun, even if you don't care about socks. It has a lot of history in it. What amuses me most is, back in the 16th and 17th century, knitting was very popular amount young women and men. They would have picknicks of a sort, the purpose was to knit some socks to make some extra money. It was kind of like a "stitch'n'bitch" except with young men knitting as well. It was a great place to meet potential husbands and to flirt.

That's so crazy to imagine, and so funny how young men now I am sure associate it with old ladies. Only 200 years ago men sat around with women knitting garters for tall stockings. Talk about a paradigm shift.

Alienware has horrible customer service

Ever heard of a company called alienware? Well if you havn't now you have. Don't EVER buy a computer from them. They have the worlds worst customer service. Their customer service reps have no power to do anything. We have been on the phone with tech support for 10+ hours total trying to fix my machine, with no end in site. They refuse (agains't there warranty) to take back a machine until they determine the problem. NO MATTER how many hours it takes. They won't ship it back to them for free until that happens.

DO NOT BUY A COMPUTER from Alienware. Here I thought they are the best, and it turns out they are the worst. So I am stuck with a $2.600 computer, that doesn't work and they won't take back to fix. It was less then 6 months old when it simply stopped working.

This is my way of paying them back, for their nice customer service. Please spread the word, thanks :)

I am a flawed knitter

What is this? Why it's a finished OBJECT ...and me working on the Picot edging on a fingerless glove!

An "Object" Indeed

My husbands comment "That's so 80's". Thanks for the support hun!!

I knit this little sucker in approx 4 hours or so. Super fast! I only got the yarn and fabric on wednesday and it's not even friday!

However I have a few words. I am a flawed knitter. We all know those blogs we know and love. The ones gloriously written by talanted knitters, they only post for FO's and stash enhancments, and you never hear to much about any mistakes they make.

I am a flawed humen being and a flawed knitter! This was my first glove, and my first gussett (sp?). The thumb if you notice has a purled end, it's supposed to be st st. There are holes on the inside in the place I cast off "2 stitches over the gap" whatever the hell that meant.

I thought I did what the instructions asked, but I guess I did not.

I am going to knit the second one next week, and see if I can't fix the mistakes I made. Then if I do manage to knit it "perfectly" I'm going to alter the pattern and replace the Picot's with more ribbing and make a pair with all the Baby Alpaca I have laying around (3 green, 3 red and 3 cream). It only takes one ball for a pair of gloves, Enough for MANY gloves!! Or maybe I'll just go ahead and change it on the second glove, and call it an experiment. Throw caution to the wind my friends!

Sewing Class

Half done with my PJ Pants!

re: Clover MINI circular needles!!

Wow, can you say ROCK! I normally try not to knit at work but I am slow today, waiting to get started on some user testing.

Here is my FIRST picot edge ever, I love these little circulars!

Buy some now! - Okay those are a bit over priced, but showed the variety. I paid $5.

Clover MINI circular needles!!

Adorable new knit shop near my work! Wendy had seen it a few times and wanted to stop by it one day durring lunch. Sarah, I know your wanting to go to this place now!

Only Ewe and Cotton too! (Alpharetta, GA)

Clovers new line of mini circs! (8 inches and come in limited sizes) For socks and mittens, these should be interesting to try out...

Adorable Kiparoo Farm pattern for fingerless gloves. Sorry you can't see how cute they are, just wait till I am done!

They didn't have any Rowan yarn, and I was really having a urge for some Calmer. Oh well I didn't spend much and that's for the best I am sure! I had a bad night last night (apparently I don't know how to cut out a Pajama Bottom pattern without wasting and destroying all of the fabric involved, but I blame the teacher for not warning me about dumb newbie mistakes!! BASTAGES!!)

A finished Mutli-Directional Scarf!

Well last night I went ahead and cast this little scarf off, it's been done for ages but I had not gotten around to doing the last part which i didn't have memorized and involved going onto the internet.

So there you have it!

How much is that doggy in the window?

If you look close you can see two dogs watching me leave for work. If you click on the photo and see the larger view it has notes.

Progress? Maybe!

Well I am nearly back to the place I was at on sunday night before I frogged.

No photo today, left my phone in the car

I just signed up for a Fairisle knitting workshop for Oct 22nd. They teach the tecnique that allows you to carry the yarn so you don't get ends and large snags of yarn behind your work.

I need to cut my fabric out for my PJ's tonight or tommorow in preparation for class on Wednesday. I so can't wait for that, I will come home with completed PJ's (or so the teacher claims). I just feel so amazingly crafty this month!

I wonder what I should make for my husband with the old Nintendo Muchroom pattern I had made. I was thinking socks would be cute, with a muchroom cuff, but I don't know how to make socks. I guess I will be making him another hat, he will get a kick out of that. I am thinking instead of red I'll do a light chocolate brown hat and then use the old yarn for the muchrooms that I still have.

The worst part about being in the crafty "zone" is that you don't want to do ANYTHING but knit and sew! Everything else is pure torture.

How many hours did I just spend?

Well as ushual I had some sort of a mess up I wasn't willing to live with. Some place I read my HP scarf shoudl be 4 st per inch and maybe I was confusing it with the ball band, but any ways it was really supposed to be 5 st per inch. SO my scarf was WAY wider then it should have been.

It fit on my head (it's knit in the round) so that was ny first warning sign. I frogged that sucker, for like 80 rows worth of knitting, wound my loose yarn and re-cast-on!!

I hope I don't have to do that again, deadline you know! I also went out and got the first HP movie on DVD to help me plug along. So it is very sad that all my weekend knitting has just basically been wasted.

Stinks doesn't it? But if I am going to take the time, it might as well be right.

It's a rare thing that in a dream I am myself

... and someone actually calls me by name. In my dream I was traveling at an airport from europe or something, back to the US. I was traveling with Brittney Spears. Mostly odd because I have not read any articles on her or heard any songs by her recently.

I had two seats on the airplane (oh and this dream does get to knitting believe it or not). One was in row A so I sat in the front (I also had a ticket for row F and the number 96 was in my mind as well). Brittney was the pilot (WTF?) but it was more like it was a classroom, it was weird. But she was the pilot none the less. It involved her sitting in a seat in the front facing us. Her daughter was coming to. Cute little thing with dark hair. So I helped her with her daughter, so she could fly the plane. Oh before the daughter came into the dream brittney said something to the all the passangers, that I was hot as hell (I was wearing a cute white jogging/jump suite type outfit) and I was grinning like mad cause she was telling everyone I was so hot. And she said my full name when she said it, First and Last.

SO WEIRD! So then I remember helping her with the kid, and then suddenly next thing I remeber I was designing a knit top for her.She called for a knitter to come do it to my exact instructions. It was knit in black. Just as I woke up a second variation of it came into my head.

I woke up to my husband looking out the window and then willow tried to sit on me. So I quickly ran into the office so I could draw it on the computer.

The ribbing part is a fat 4x4 ribbing. And I imagined it specifically knit sidways so you just split the stitches at the arm pit and then knit the other two ends individually. I think it's pretty hot! The second version exposes the tummy.

So weird... I would like that cute little white outfit tho, apparently is made me look hot!

Update:
gah! Looks like someone already designed something very similar to my dream top. However I do think one day I'll write my own pattern for it!

Late Night Potter Madness

I'm still knitting as you read this, I'm so excited to finish this for the movie. I hope I can do it (and not run out of yarn!)

Late night knitting it's complete without puppies nestled up next to you!

ChicKami - FO

Click for full view

Well there I am my dorky self in my ChicKami. It's not perfect but it's my first finished top and I should be proud!

Don't tell my husband how much I spent on needles

I am making up a little hat pattern in Trendsetter Dune some of the prettiest yarn on earth.

I ran out this morning and got some needles from the quilt store semi-close to my house.

Click image to see details and rollovers for what each needle is for!

FINALLY I got to start the HP scarf

I always knit while watching TV

September 23, 2005

F-O for my H-O

A finished hat! It's kind of girly and well I think fairly ugly, but the husband was very proud and put it right on!

Detail of the top

Action Shot

Willow was not interested in the Hat

Toby just wanted to be loved and asked me to stop taking pictures so he could relax with dad

I still need to take some cute pics of the tank top, maybe with a better camera then these. Sci-Fi Friday!! BATTLESTAR GALACTICA comes on in 30 minutes!!

I swatched HP on some 7's and was happy with the gauge and fabric. I went to Joann's, no 12" or 16" circs. I went to Micheals. No dice. I went to Hobby Lobby. No dice. Does no one knit hats in the world? I sure don't see that terrible many people running around in hand knit sweaters. All these damn craft stores only carry 29" circs!! ARHH!! So now I will have to go to the quilt store tommorow and hope they have something besides Addi's. Cross your fingers for me, otherwise I will have to order over the net and WAIT! *pouts*

Harry Potter Yarn - KnitPicks Andean Silk

It's just yummy looking, gawd I just adore Alpaca anything!

Yay! I did 3 day shipping cause the yarn was so low cost I didn't feel to guilty!! I was going to use the same addi's that I have the hat on, but I don't like how short the needle is on the super short length addi's. So I may have to get some Crystal Palace Needles.

I also forgot that joining yarn in the round can be bad business so now there is a wee little hole in the hat! :(

WIP me good!

Currently Drinking:

mmmmm... so loverly

Currently Knitting:

This is a hat I started on last year for my hubby. I had all the ribbing completed and came to the fair isle part and gave up. So I decided now just to delete the fair isle part and keep it plain! The hubby is very excited.

If I finish this hat for him he can't keep complaining to me that I never finished it for him each time I bring home more yarn or fabric :)

Here is a Lions Brand Kool Wool Seed Stitch scarf, I love seed stitch. I am pretty sure I am using WAY to small a needle, but I love the dense fabric and how the seeds really pop!

Currently Sewing:
Pajama Bottoms in a loverly pink plaid cotton (I had class last night) This week I have to cut out all the pieces and next week we will sew it all together. I can't wait. I am just imagining how many people I can give PJ pants to for XMAS and Hanukah gifts!

It was funny in class I told the teacher I quilt and knit and she was trying to sell me on all these classes and I'm thinking "hum I already know how to knit and quilt"... lol

In knitting news...

I have finished the ChiKami tank top!! DONE!! My First ever finished knitted item besides a hat or scarf!! Photo's to come soon. I finished last night :)

Fiber and Fabric

Cotswold Wool 60 yards each

I would love to make something cool out of this, but 120 yards is pretty skimpy. It was $12 canadian for each skein. So any suggestions are welcome! www.gaspereauvalleyfibres.ca

One of the sheep the Cotswold came from!

www.fleeceartist.com fiber was also being sold there so i got some!

I'm going to use this to make this: Garter Stitch Jacket

Fat Quaters - A few random ones I snagged near the check out counter

Some wonderful Northcott to make a Nova Scotia memory quilt from!

(Northcott Chantilly Lace)

I always get a tea/cofee cup any place I visit! This one was handpainted locally in NS.

View the photo gallery for all my Nova Scotia buys!

Nova Scotia 2005

Jesse and I went to Nova Scotia Sept 7th thru the 12th. It was a really fun time so here are a few photo's and notes about our trip!

I have always dreamed of renting a convertable. We used Budget and their website said it would be like a Ford Mustang. We got a little shock when it was a PT Cruiser. It is suprising how comfortable it is to cruise in, however it has a crpapy turning radius compared to my element.

The first day we went to a winery and a fiber shop!

The Gaspereau Vineyards

This is Vanilla the sheep

We watched the sun set on the water at Halls Harbour

We Hiked Cape Split (8.6 miles baby!)

We drove a few hours to Prince Edward Island and stayed at the Rasberry Inn

...and we relaxed and made a mess of everything...

... and said hi to the chickens...

My life long dream comes true and we visit Green Gables and drink Strawberry Cordial (After being made fun of by a 17 year old gas station attendant)

We visited the beutiful sand dunes

and the red clay cliffs

On our way back to Halifax we visited a Gouda Cheese Farm

We spent the last night in a westin and ate the best food we had the whole trip. I had a crem brule sampler for a desert. I didn't take any pictures at that point because we just laid in bed and did nothing. We wanted to see Halifax, but instead we just laid in bed and got PPV on the TV and got room service.

I am back, after being sick and lots of adventures!

Well the last time I posted was on Aug 24th and I was feeling very hectic. I got sick the very next day on thursday! I woke up with a sore throat, by the end of the day I was feeling very tired. I ran out of white thread and decided to get over having the quilt done. So I spent the rest of the afternoon packing and getting ready for my flight.

Friday I also went to the doc and she said I didn't have strep, probably a virus and nothing she could do for me. It was mostly annoying.

Here is my quilt (the left most one) on top of the pottery barn quilt. My friend just loved it so much and couldn't get over how close it looked to the real thing.

By the end of the weekend in NC I was so tired of sucking on throat drops, and I was getting tired, and not sleeping well. Hurrican Katrina delayed my flight home by about 3 hours and on the trip home in the car I began to cry just out of being sick and tired and wanting to get into bed.

I then slept for 3 days. When I woke up Wednesday I went back to the doctor, got some pills for the runny nose and congestion I had started to have on tuesday. I laid in bed and watched CNN. I was totally shocked by what I was seeing and hearing. I then spent the rest of the week sleeping and watching CNN. No energy to knit or sew. I was sick for 9 consecutive days.
