I love lights

I rant to home depot after work and got two animated deer. One female and one male with antlers. Of course none of the outside outlets seem to be working. I was content to watch the head of the dear go back and forth in my living room!

Jesse watches Chapel Show on the comdey channel. I finally had to turn it off to get him to focus!

Here are three pretty red tree's near work, finally turning the pretty fall colors

This week I have noticed a few really cool bright colored tree's.

Proof there was knitting

Lorna's Laces sock yarn in Egg Plant in the Jaywalker Pattern (modified to 60 stitches, 5 instead of 7(8) knit stitches inside the repeat.

I woke up again with a headache today, because I got a headache last night. Had to stop knitting. BUT ATLEAST THE COLORS ARE POOLING CORRECTLY!! :)

I am guessing I have a bug or virus. A co-worker stayed home today because he was feeling ill as well, same problems with the head and not wanting to eat as much as normal. Maybe I can get farther along on my sock tonight. I am anxious to start my solid sock, but I wanted to try this pattern out first. I might do it for a solid, or a couple of others that have been on blogs that I have liked.

Is it monday already?

YaAnn and I are having the same problem with the Jaywalker pattern, but we are both using different yarn. After nearly a dozen cast on's over saturday and sunday I gave up. So then i got about 2 inches on the sock and tried it on and it didn't fit. So now I have to try again with 60 stitches instead of 52. Maybe the colors will pool better.

You see, i thought the colors pooling depending on the place I started in the yarn for the cast-on. I cast on from both ends, from all different places. The color did change some, but it was not stripping like it should have been. So finally after trying everything I realized this morning DUH it was because of the stitch count!! Because when i first cast on 72 it pooled perfectly, but the 72 was huge on me. So now I learned something new, and nearly destroyed a bit of the lorna's lace. It's okay though, I'm going to do it!

I am still very out of it. My eyes arn't working as well as I would like them this morning (the result of not having worn my contacts in 4 days) and I feel well generally woozy out of it. I prolly should go to the doctor, or the dentist maybe. I also need to get the oil changed in the Element.

blah blah blah

in my stupified haze of Dayquil and Sudaphed I have cast on and re-cast on for a Jaywalker sock prolly about 10 times now, knitting about half an inch each time to see how the colors pooled. Each time they pooled crappy. Oh and I woke up at 11 with a headache, and went back to bed till 5pm which I woke up feeling somewhat better.

I am still in a haze, and aggrevated that I did squat this weekend, and it was wasted being sick. Hopefully I won't be ill tommorow for work, and my cleaning lady comes which I am glad about, and today we did 3 loads of dishes which I am happy about.

Pixie's first "real" sock!

I had a little trouble with the last two stitches so there is a tiny bump no one but me would notice. I'm so proud!! What was odd about this sock is, it called for worsted weight yarn and 48 stitches to be cast on. I used trekking which is certainly not worsted. It fits perfectly. WEIRD! So this sock was done in Trekking XXL in color #100 using the Fiber Trends Magic Loop booklet and pattern. I'll post the details again once the set is complete! Oh it was on #2 bamboo crystal palace circs.

Please ignore my pasty Irish legs :) I am still feeling ill, I think maybe it's seriously bad allergies maybe. Sore neck, sore eyes, headache, nose ache (but not stuffy, well stuffy in the way bacl but I can breath out my nose).

More Random Updates

Taken with my new phone cam (in bad lighting no less).

It's so exciting to get to this point on a real sock!! It feels so yummy on my feet, and it fits perfectly so far. I hope the toe end doesn't wind up being to long. I am putting the needles up now (11:30pm) so as not to make any bad midnight mistakes. I'll finish it tommorow!! Half a week for 1 long sock, not to bad! The husband is in the background playing Metal Gear.

Should I name my new gadget? Nokia 6102

6102-1.jpg

I have needed a new phone for a while, and had planned to get one as a way to celebrate my new job. Sadly all of the phones I wanted cost $400 or more, and don't have real internet (just WAP crap). So I decided on this model, and with all my accessories it cost $200. Not bad for not signing a contract actually. I got a lot of accessories, a ear bud that wraps you're ear and has a voice part, a car charger and a little leather case.

I can't wait to charge it tonight, and take pics with it tommorow and hook it to my blog/flickr like my old phone was. It's sad how far behind asia we are with phone stuff. I am waiting for cheaper bandwidth on phones, or bandwidth hooked into you're home internet accounts, and little slim keyboards that slide out of the side of the phone. ONE DAY MY DREAMS WILL COME TRUE!! lol

Half a sock

It's an awful photo, but here is the sock I have worked on this weekend. It's not solid, but I needed some super soft yarn to keep me going, otherwise I kept being misrable and ripping. I also don't think I like knitting long tops, even though I like to wear socks with long tops, it's to tight there, but not to tight on the foot. Also normal ribbing is a BORE, this is a different kind of rib (same pattern I am using for the alpaca scarf) and from the Magic Loop booklet (which took like 3 weeks to arrive!). So on the NEXT pair I'll pick some fun pattern, and not do it nearly as tall.

Wish me luck on the second half :) I have some good plans for my solid socks, I'm going to work them in a pumpkin color!

Solid Socks Along - Progress

Jan has finished a pair of Solid Socks, they are beutiful.

What a great photograph.

I updated the Solid Socks Along page with all the current names.

if I am missing you're name, just let me know by commenting to this entry.

U2 2006 - Atlanta

How close we got to the stage

A happy pixie before the show

We are so close to the stage, so close you can't even see it. I loved how they put themselves right up next to everyone

Full stage view

Opening was Gavin's Rosdale's new band (used to be in Bush)

U2 has the best set up, if you're in a floor seat then you get randomly selected by lottery as you enter, to be in that senter "eclipse". We did not get picked, but that's okay! Sadly, Jesse went to get beers and never got back to me in the crows, SO RUDE, people where disgustingly rude. I was shocked. So Jesse was not with me for even ONE U2 song, that sucked... I cried some cause I couldn't find him and I was half drunk, and wanted to have him gold me for atleast one song, to have the memory. He felt really awful, and promised we would go to the next U2 concert that came our way. He bought me some cool shwag to make amends.

Bono did this amazing thing, he had a bandana on, it had the symbol for Mohamad I think, then the star of david, and the cross. He said this really cool little ryhme. He said something like "Mohamad, Jew and Jesus too, all sons of Abraham" and then something like "what happend to you're sons, abraham?". It was just so... wild. The moment, the whole crowd screaming in approval and well. I can't totally explain it but it was cool. It was weird to see bono with the star of david in the middle of his forhead, he was making a statement, about peace and brotherhood. Saying we are all brothers (ehem.. sisters!) and we should all love one another, and treat each other equal.

They also made some statements about human rights, and fair trade. Loads of stuff. He got the whole entire audience to take out their cellphones and hold them up, it was like... the stadium was a giant christmas tree covered in lights. He had everyone send a text message, to use their voice to end poverty and aids. Go to one.org to find out more. I sign up this morning. You're just signing you're name. At the end of the concert the names of people who had signed up appeared above on the screens.

It was an amazing concert, I loved the simplicity of everything. At the beggning it was just the stage, some cool lights, and a bunch of confetti. So cool! I'm still rather sad I didn't get to spend one moment of it with Jesse. Ah well.

Chocolate Alpaca

I seem to like brown latley, it's such a warm color. I ripped out the sock last night, as it was a new sock pattern (from folk socks) and once I get to the heel it wasn't adding up at all, it wanted me to knit nearly half the stitches for the heel, and it didn't seem to make sence, it would have meant doing very odd things. You know me, I am way to anylitical and if my brain doesn't click, I rip!!!

So I am using a fun little fluffy ribbed pattern on the Blue Sky Alpaca. Let's see if I actually finish this shall we? I can't wait for my knitting Meetup, maybe someone can help me with my unfinished sweaters. I updated the Solid Socks Along page yesterday, well half of it before being interupted. I'll try to finish it today. I only got about half of the new names up! It's amazing how many participants we have!

i wanted to go see Harry Potter tonight, but it's nearly 3 hours long and I can't stay up until 3am. It will have to wait until tommorow, a good way to celebrate my first complete week at the new job!

so far so good

I can deal with this sock yarn, so far! (KnitPicks)

Solid Socks and Shaggy Spouses!

the shaggy haired husband and the shaggy haired dogs sit and play video games!

While I try to find something to knit on that makes me happy.

So I can now use the Magic Loop! I'm scared for when I get to the heel and all, but I think I can use my DPNs for that part maybe...

It does go fairly fast though. I only cast on an hour ago and the first hour for me is always the roughest.

So there it is, a solid sock. I need to update that page, loads more people have joined now and I have a some completed picture to post (by participants, not me of course DOH!), I'm just to tired tonight after my "first" day on the new job. It was fine, but I was late, twice, and I got my period and felt generally "off". I felt more sorted out tonight after reading through some stuff, I think every single day will be a bit better, baby steps back to normality!!

That's better

it's not perfect but it's better. Disco ball lights, funky colors! I plan on adding a shaggy rug, and some large pillows. Once I can find some for a cheapo price!

November 12, 2005

Dunwoody Yarn

Wonderful Blue Sky Alpacas yarn

I got some of the 100% Alpaca. I don't think the shop had a lot of variety, but the lady working was very kind and friendly.

I am going to knit on this tonight, I have a plan for it!

I had to go out and get my hair done, yes I HAD TO because my self esteem needed it, and I refused to let being sick let me go on with bad roots for another week or possibly longer. My nose is all raw and red but I'll survive.

Next weekend is the U2 concert, I'm so excited. I am hoping I can take some knitting needles with me because I am going to sit outside in line for a few hours to get us a good standing position, we got the floor seats!! If you've never been to a u2 concert they (meaning the band) believe you shouldn't have to pay a lot to be close, so all floor tickets are $50, and there are no seats (atleast not to any I went to). So if you get there super early you can get a GOOD spot. I can't WAIT! HP and U2 in the same week, life is good. OH and a new job too.. WOW!

I'm gonna take a nap now, I'm exhausted.

November 11, 2005

My new diggs

I need to think of a good way to dress it up. My new group seems like so much fun, and really comfortable with each other.

So in other news I'm full on sick from the flu spray crap. I should have known better then to do it while my immune system is not up to par because of stress. My nose is peeling already, and I have sneezing fits every hour. It's so weird because I was not sick at all lasy year or the year before. Hopefully next year will be sick free as well, but I'll save some days near the end just in case.

I knit like 9 rows on HP, but I'm to ill to want to work on it, will i finish in time?? DUN DUN DUN!!! I don't know, but whatever. I will NOT stress myself over my crafts, i got sick big time the last time I stressed about a certain blanket (which is still not done and the baby was supposidly born this week!!).

Life is gonna get better for me, now that I have removed a great source of stress. I am looking forward to new adventures! I'm extremly excited because my new boss seemed very open to us ordering some expensive equipment we need for testing! Oh and i got dual monitors now!! YAY!!!

More Stitch Markers

Here is tonight's work, however I don't like how I am wirewrapping. I'm going to have to go back to the lady and have her show me again.

My co-worker Shelley went to the Mart and picked me up some great markers!! Burkenstocks, Tea cups, Breast Cancer ribbons, and oh so COOL Spinning Wheels.

Outdoor Pics!

Finally an FO!

A women at work who is expecting asked if I would knit her a baby hat. I am happy to report I did indeed do it. Cast on last night and finished tonight baby!

Here it is blocking on a lovely toilet paper role.

Plymouth Dreambaby DK
Acrylic / Nylon blend (Washable!)
5 1/2 sts = 1" on US 6 needles

My husband made fun of how it is being blocked and asked me if the baby had been vacum sucked out of the womb and made it have a tube shaped head. I smacked him.

I'm also excited because I started a Knitting Meetup group near my work! Alpharetta Knitting Meetup Group! and one of my co-workers already accepted, and another lady seems to have joined the group but not RSVP'd. Pretty good though for one day. I had to spend $45 to create the stupid group, I'm not investing past 3 months unless I get a decent showing.

I have a terrible runny nose, danm flu spray!! ARGHH!!

Spinning Lessons

Well as I live out in the country and spinning lessons are always durring the day when this working girl can't go. I am trying to arrange a private lesson in early december! Wish me luck in getting it lined up. It's been difficult so far, lots of phone tag.

Knitting 2 socks on the Magic Loop

Someone was asking about this the other day and I can't remember who was... but while doing a search I found this PDF for how to do two socks on one circ!!

view the site with the link to the PDF
PDF File

Bye bye lunch

I might be getting sick :(

I got the flu spray earlier this week and i think I am getting sick. I can tell my immune system is down for sure because I bit the inside of my lip and it's not healing very fast. I tend to get sick when stressed. I am stressed yes, not in the conventional to much to do way, but stressed none the less.

I cast on for a baby hat last night, there is a baby shower tommorow at work I am going to attempt to get the hat done for that, but to NOT stress myself out I have already accepted I may not finish it!

Blue Screen

This happened today at work, luckily it wasn't a fatal error. It happens anytime you are in Visio, and print to PDF and then choose to cancel the PDF (because for example you realized you didn't save out as landscape).

My computer at work is a piece of crap tho, as is my broken home computer. Sounds like the mother board is fried and it sounds like ITS MY FAULT back from when I spilled rootbeer on it. Apparently it can take a few weeks to destroy the motherboard, even days or weeks after you made the spill.

3 more days people, 3 more days till me new job!

November 07, 2005

I love yarnlady.com

Yarnlady.com is one of my favorite yarn sites, I actually heard about it from a lady at work many years ago, who told me they did free shipping. I can't remember now if they do free shipping, but they have the best customer service. Well they are going to take back my brilla and the lady wrote me such a nice email back! So I get to send back my brilla and get another color. I am having a hard time deciding.. because it's hard to tell over the computer. I spoke to one of their sales people and we went over the colors. I hate picking colors over the internet!!

I don't think I mentioned in my last entry how much I detest the yarn, it was not at all like the photo of the colorway. It must go back, save the one ball I used.

The larger portion of my KnitPicks yarn arrived, the rest of the fair isle stuff will come probably in early december. I am still waiting on my Magic Loop Booklet.

So this week is my LAST week at my Job. I'm so anxious to move on with things.

Ribbed Corset Swatch

I have no idea about swatching actually, never had to knit anything with a pattern that didnt lay natural. I got 5st an inch (unblocked) and 6 rows and inch in height.

So I have no idea what to do to block, am I supposed to make it so you can see the ribbed pattern better? I figure it will do that on it's own when i wear it. I'm confused how to know if it's going to fit. Any hints woubd be great! It's cotton and viscose and it says to wash and then flat dry, I can't imagine the size will change any if I am not machine drying it...

Tonight was fun fun tv, Laguna Beach was reality TV at it's finest, it's what the real world used to be waaaay back when! Then I saw my fair brady, omg what a train wreck but I am happy they are getting married. Then of course "Girls Next Door" which I can't explain my facination with this show. I am tryign to get my husband to get the November issue of playboy because I want to see their photos. I think I'm going to have to buy it myself if I want it. I'm just to embarrased to walk in some place and buy it! I wonder if barnes and noble has playboy. I can't explain my facination with these 3 girls, it's just sooo weird i can't help but watch. I tried to watch the Britney reality series, but it was just BAD.

----

oh freakin crud, I just realized I don't have enough yarn for the corset, I forgot it has TWO yarn requirments.. OMG!!! I AM STUPID!!

Sunday Sunday Sunday

Sorry for the matress shot, we are doing laundry! I hit bar 10 today which means I have done 3 over this weekend. Things are looking good for the premier.

I had to stop though for the night, and work on my glove, and now I think I'm going to be BAD and start my ribbed corset, or atleast swatch for it! I was told it would be wise to swatch the charts first.

The end of the scarf is in site!

November 05, 2005

a day in the life...

Everyone is doing these "photo every hour" blog entries, I just sort of documented my day.

First I got mail! YAY! Trekking yarn. I adore the colores (oh lord am I growing a liking for variated yarns??)

The booklet is coming sepratly so I can't cast on yet. Probably for the best as I need to focus on HP!

Next the hubby and I went to Best Buy to try to get my computer fixed

It sounds like it's the mother board, which means I will have a WASTED $2600 computer. This depresses me in SO many ways I can't even begin to explain.

We went to petsmart and peir 1. We remembered to get a cat litter bin but no cat litter. Go team work! We stopped on the way home at the alky-hall store and got some fine wine!

Then I chilled in the backyard for a bit and the animals played. Willow kept slidding down the hill on purpose, paws first, digging into the loose dirt. It was the funniest thing ever, she did it several times.

(click on the photo to view it larger, it's hilarious!)

Then when the fire got better at night, we roasted marshmellows and all sat outside. A very relaxing saturday evening!

New Stitch Markers

Tonight I ran by Micheals, wow they have crappy stuff! Atleast compared to the bead shops stuff. Well okay, I should just say their headpins sucked.

Here is my latest stitch markers. I need to get more round thingies so I can make more;

Pretty cute huh? Here are my tools;

If you ever like any of the ones I post let me know and I can make a set on request, with whatever colored beads you want. These charms are in the shape of shoes, purses and cell phones. So freakin cute! Each set of 6 is $14 including shipping.

Normally I avoid religion conversation...

but who can ignore it when THIS YEAR Chanukah is sharing days with Christmas?! OMG HOW RAD!

Why is this rad? Because my mother is Jewish and my father is Catholic, so for me this year's holiday head on colision vrey much feels like it happened just for me! I am both, and this year that day gets to be BOTH! I just think it's so freaking cool.

I found this very interesting website for Catholics and Jews...

"For the Jewish people, the true meaning of Christmas is usually as much a mystery as the purpose and celebration of Chanukah is to Christians. For the first time in many years, our holidays begin at the same time! Christmas eve is also the eve of Chanukah. One thing is certain, both celebrations turn our eyes to the Land of Israel where our Judeo and Christian heritages meet!"

Yay, I am so excited! I am going to have lights all over the outside of our house, blue ones to represent my Jewish Haritage, and inside the house will be a tree and a Menorah and some Raindeer (cause I like animals). I love lights, and I love having my own house and my own money I can use to decorate with!!

Knitting Presents

This is my second knitting present from co-workers this week. Wendy (my cube-neighbor) brought this in she said because she's gonna miss me when I leave! I'm only gonna be one building over though. Stinks cause, she only just moved her cube next to mine, and then I go!! :(

I think I could use my Encore Worsted Colorspun that I got last month for this! Oddly it says the gauge is 5 st = 1", but it says sport weight wool is required. I can't imagine that it is correct??? Something seems very off about that.

Harry in a Hurry

Isn't it sad I am barley over halfway done?? Maybe I can kick out 2 or 3 bars this weekend, then I MAY have a fighting chanse of finishing.

We have had lots more Solid Socks people comment so I'll be updating that again early next week and checking everyone to see who has some progress!

I am keeping busy at work, and also attempting to clean out my desk. I start my new Job the week after next! Nothing like some Earl Gray from staa'bucks to get you going in the morning!

November 03, 2005

Okay I was wrong... BUT IM STILL RIGHT!!

A co-worker (who likes to wear XMAS sweaters, muhahaha!) let me know I was wrong, and they do on Knit Picks show you what is out of stock. I never noticed it, but I will take her word for it.

However as some of you may or may not know I do usability testing and user interface design, and it's not my fault I didn't notice it, the old saying goes "users are stupid" and it's true. I don't read stuff half the time. The design of the site should make it very clear to me, I should not have think. That's another old saying, the user should not have to think! You may think all of that is a bit harsh, but it's not about insulting the user, it's about making things VERY easy for the user, so they don't even have to stress about it!

Well now that I have bored you (and possibly insulted you!) I'll get back to work...

... oh yeah I hit another bar on my Harry Potter Scarf last night, and I am nearly done with the first baby alpaca glove (of my own design!) and I think it's turning out VERY well!!

Rent is coming out later this month. I saw the musical in DC about 8 years ago or more... there is an adorable scarf pattern in it I am thinking of knitting. It's nearly identical to the original HP scarves, but only has one colorway. White and a dark navy or black. I might do a 1x1 rib and knit it up for my hubby to wear to the premier!!

November 02, 2005

You know I hate when yarn sellers do this....

... allow me to order out of stock yarn.

I got a confirmation email from knit picks today. Everyone just says they are the best but this is my second order from them and I'm not impressed. Here is the email:

Why does it say discontinued?? That scares me... also... they know knitters right, clearly I ordered the Snow Flakes and Arrows Kit, I used the Kit link to order it. Why send me HALF the yarn for it?? What if it IS discontinued, I CERTAINLY would not want the KIT if that was the case. Also it took nearly two days to send out, but I suppose that's acceptable. I just know other sites that get it out faster.

The last page of the Crochet Magazine has an article by Annie Modisett (ribbed corset designer). It talks about your "grandmother's knitting" and mainly how, all generations have their moments of bad taste, and it's leaving a lot out to just write off any "old" patterns and "old" craftsters. I agree of course, however stereotypes often come into place because more then one person exhibites the same behavior. I'm not justifying it, I'm just saying.

For example I was at a knitting group a few weeks ago and the women (most with kids nearly my age) where talking about how XMAS sweaters can be very tacky. MAN could I agree, but then the one lady said "I just like to keep it simple, a nice green sweater, with the christmas tree in the center" and they all agree'd, that was not tacky. Which sweater did they mean are tackY?? Because to me an XMAS tree in the center of a forest green sweater, is well... pretty tacky. HOWEVER I know a few people who wear them and they look very cute, but to me it's got a bit of cheesey/tackyness to it, for my taste. I do hope I am not offending anyone, but I am allowed to say my thoughts here on my dumb little blog!! hehe!

The husband came and for me at work today because he wanted to go to Media Play. I was bad. I am not allowed to spend ANY money on knitting stuff this weekend!!

Wednesday is Solid Socks day!

Knitting Witch

knitting_witch.jpg

My very sweet co-worker got me this really cute figurine from Joann's. it's a knitting Witch! I think it's the cutest knitting related thing I have ever seen!! She comes complete with a bag full of yarn, a cat wearing a knitted sweater, and pumpks with knitted hats! I'm going to keep it out until HP leaves theaters. It's so cute! THANKS SHEL!!

Jewelry for your knitting!

I opened up my Etsy shop last night! View Pixie Purls Stitch Marker Shop Now!

Here are my first two sets of stitch markers I EVER MADE! Wow! Go ME!

If you notice one of them is slightly different, that one can be used to mark the beggining of a round.

I am open to any requests or interesting idea's for stitch markers you would like to see, any themes? I was thinking cute shoes, or cute tea cups etc.
