an old bulgarian folk remedy is PLAIN UNFLAVORED yogurt mixed with baking soda to form a paste, and put it on the burned area for 15-20 minutes, rinse with cool water, let dry naturally.
i poo poo'd it for the longest but I gotta tell ya, when I finally stopped being stubborn and tried it, it REALLY works!! It draws the heat out and really soothes the skin.
I've also heard (but not tested):
* Mix equal parts of yogurt and mashed strawberries and apply to the sunburned area for 15 minutes. Rinse with cool water.
* Rub sunburned area with fresh cucumber slices. They are very cool and will soothe the area.
and
* Apply apple cider vinegar to the burn with a cottonball, or make a cooling compress for a large area to relieve the pain.
Okay, this is really smelly but it really does help. Use a half and half mixture of water and vinegar. Put a couple of ice cubes in the mixture to get it cold. Dip a washcloth in, wring out the extra liquid, lay it across the burned areas. I burn very easily and this gives me the most relief.
Oh man - I am so sorry. Hope you feel better soon. I somewhat feel responsible... I've told you... I wish I could have my knitting on my desk at work. Dangit...
Try aloe straight from the plant if you can get it. Both are good, but the stalks beat the bottled stuff hands down. Hope it feels cooler in your world soon!
When I was a child and used to blister constantly, my mother would always keep a bottle of aloe in the fridge. I still remember how good a damp washcloth covered in cool aloe felt on the sunburn.
