Strauch Petite - New Toy

I wish I had gotten a photo of Otto, that would have been funny. I picked up my Strauch at SAFF and Claudia had taken these photos at the hotel so I thought it would be a good way to introduce my new toy. I have to say I am most excited about "blending" on this bad boy. I shall never hand card again!

I ran the locks through twice;

Strauch Petite - First Roving - Romney

Not too shabby considering it wasn't all that terribly clean as far as the red clay went, the lanolin was gone though, I could tell when I spun a bit up on my spindle.

Strauch Petite - First Roving on Spindle

I was surprised out how easily and smooth it spun up for only my first try on the carder. I got the opttional brush attachment on top that helps compacts the fleece, it came with all kind of niffty tools and everything worked perfectly. It was VERY lofty and fluffy (is it a batt or roving?? I think it's a batt...) and I think if I load it up thicker I can get a bit less air in it, or if I press the brush attachment down harder. Experiments coming this fall to a blog near you!

I'm just curious, did you have Strauch hand carders prior to this? Because I just picked up a set at Rhinebeck and I love them. But now you got me thinking about a drum carder and your seems pretty compact. Hmmmmmmm.

Hey, I remember that drunkcarder!

Oh, I'm so jealous! I wanted one so bad, but $$ situation not so good right now. But when Earth Guild has their sale in February, watch out! Strauch Petite, here I come! Sorry I missed y'all, but frankly forgot where to meet. Next year!--Laura

From a drum carder you get a batt. You can draw the batts out into a roving, but straight off the carder you get batts.

Damn you Pixie! That drum carder is so super freakin cool! A drum carder has been on my "list" for a long time now - but seeing your post is really making me want to go order one even though I have no business doing so!

Doh - you are so lucky (must be nice!!) Have fun with your new toy!

Congrats on your carder! I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it.

On the Strauch Petite drum carder, I found your blog because I'm searching for reviews on it. I'm wondering how you're doing with it? Will it do ALL fibers? I hand card everything ranging from silk, alpaca, merino, polypay, to lincoln, cotswold, icelandic, jacob. Do you think it will handle all of these?

I found one, or should I say it found me for $250 used once. I am very excited and like Linda I was looking for reviews. I have used one and saw it in action. Do you still love it?
