Ravelry.com

A while ago I was chatting with frecklegirl via e-mail I think promoted by a blog comment. I can't really remember. She mentioned this project she was working on and I went to Ravelry.com to look it over and she sent me an invite. The invite said it didn't work in Safari and life got crazy so I never followed up on it. Well it's been mentioned all over the blogsphere now so I though I would go give it a shot in Safari, and overall it worked pretty good!! I had always wanted to blog about it but I wanted to wait until it was out of beta when everyone had access to say anything about it.

Well I went last night and spent some time in it and WOW is all I can say. The main thing which is pushing it over the edge of cool is how many people are indeed already in the beta. Basically what I want to say is, it's worth the wait so just be patient. I come from a web design/dev background and I can tell you the work they are doing is IMENSE. The have a nice preview up now so you can get a better look at it if your curious.

What really impressed me was the content (all user driven!). I decided to look up two of my most recent projects, the huggable hedgehog and those DIY ugg booties. Well when i posted to for example craftster.org, knitty.com forums and knittinghelp.com forums while I did get a nice response I got very few photos of other FO's that I could see! Ravelry had over half a dozen great photos of each. I am very excited about this website and once it comes out of beta I think it's going to be HUGE!

In other news, my kitchen table arrived today!

New Kitchen Table

Yes I'm a nerd I got a kitchen table that has chairs that have WHEELS but they are so comfy and easy to scoot around in! They swivel and bend too! I just hope my husband doesn't ruin the wood top so I need to think of a way to protect it from him. He doesn't pay much attention to were he places his cups. The first time we ate on it I gave him a place-mat AND a coaster and do you know after he left and I looked there was a wet ring on the wood from a cup. How does he do that???

I got my Ravelry invite yesterday and it worked ok on my mac (safari) except I found i couldn't add patterns or yarn. I assumed it was just being tempramental, but tonight I've been on the PC (IE) and was able to. I am addicted after just 24hrs - i just hope it doesn't sell out to big company like so many other online things have.

I got my Ravelry invite Monday and I love it
As for your new dining set I love it too!

I'm still awaiting a Ravelry invite... if anyone has one, I'd love to join!

Uh-Oh... never mind (unless you HAVE an invite to give and want to share!) Just read this on the Ravelry site, so I'll just be patient! :-)

We don't prefer some users over others. A computer sends out the invites!
When we are ready for more users, we pick the amount that we want and my software sends out a batch. That's it. Very early on, we had lots of our friends in and our friends had invites to send to their friends. How else would we find small group of knitters and crocheters when we were doing very early testing? We asked our friends. As soon as the invite request thing started happening - we stopped giving beta users invites. (although we wish we could give our beta people invites - most of them have extremely helpful to us)

Still waiting on an invite and I'm so happy to hear all the bragging. It really is a great web application! My friend is sharing her login with me so I can peek around. I'm in love.

As for the table, ding it up! It will totally give it character. Plus you can say, "Honey remember that one there? That's when little Pixie threw her cup across the table"

Hey, you've got a great kitchen! Nice wheels!

I just wanted to suggest that you can buy a sheet of glass to cover the top of your table. A lot of furniture stores offer them. :-)

Husbands and guys in general have a knack for completely missing the point of the coasters! We have 6 for our living room and yet I still have 2 ring marks on one of the end tables. I am waiting for my invite! I can't wait!!

I'm now looking forward to getting my invite to Ravelry. I took a look at their preview this morning and switched from bitter jealousy to eager anticipation.

I'd second the recommendation of a clear glass layer to protect the wood.

I'm still waiting for my Ravelry invite. Hmmph. Oh, by the way Pixie, consider yourself TAGGED. (Click my website link)

Ravelry looks wonderful, I'm still on the waiting list though ;)

Congrats on the new table!!!

YOu know I'm waiting (im)patiantly for my invite... I'll try not to be jealous at those allready wasting their lives on ravelry (wanna play too!)

Good geek at getting "office" chairs in the kitchen :) it's cute.

I'm working on setting up a knitter meet-up in Asheville in July. Interested?
