Felting & Granny Bars

That's a funny title for a post huh? Well both things are in this photo!

Punk Hedgie

I stayed up until 1am for this little hedgie. I meant to go to bed by atleast midnight and I was exahsuted but when I saw how cute the hedgie came out I couldn't help but go start the washer and of course it took 3 agitation cycles. I think I felted it a bit too long because the last time really shrunk it up a bit, but the back wasn't felting so I kept putting it in. The big issue is I went to put the eyes in and um, the felt fabric is thick as a brick. I'm very nervouse to cut it and those eyes are the kind that snap on and have a very dull back. I was thinking about taking a darning needle and working a hole that way. Any other ideas?

So if you look in this photos there are two other interesting things besides the adorable hedgie. First there is a cat, Tala of course. She loves to sit in the bathtub and lick the water out, even if I don't see any water in the bathtub. So she enjoyed watching me, and sometimes she hides in there and then jumps out so Toby will chase her.

Second you will notice the white bar. There is a bar there and a bar by the toilet in our house. The first owner was an eldery women who lived alone and I can only imagine she had these installed to help her get up. Thankfully I have never needed the one by the toilet and if we ever finish painting the bathroom I will remove it. The bathtub one always annoyed me, I mean it's ugly and who needs that? Well let me tell you I have used that bar every day for the last 3 months! When we went to a hotel last month i had a hell of a time getting up out of the bathtub and I often will wind up straining a muscle or twisting something if I don't have a bar.

I never knew that bar would come in handy so much! I heart my granny bar and I heart my hedigie! Now I want to go out ASAP and get yarn to make my two newphews one each, and then I want a pink one to be friends with this one! I'm so glad I actually finished it (even if it's currently stuffed with toilet paper and has no eyes, hah). Oh and can you tell in the photo it has sparkles? It's SOO sparkly in person!!!

Awwwwh he's so cute! Love the sparkles! :)

Try an exacto knife. When I make felted bags I do this for the handles, when you start the hole is no bigger that a darning needle. you just poke the knife in as deep as needed to open the size you need.

Oh your hedgie is great! I love the sparkles :) I usually use a DPN in the size I need (also this way you can poke more than one in at once to make sure you're getting them in right places). Sometimes I've turned to a metal darning needle or even a bamboo skewer if I get lazy!

I can't wait to see him with his features! They always add so much personality :)

Love the Hedgie! He's so cute.

I was gonna say that you'll be glad to have those granny bars when you get more pregnant, but looks like you've come to see their value. :)

I like him a lot... Now I have to make one for Nate.
