Knitting Drama

Woe is me! I have had it in my head for the past week now that i should take some knitting time to finish up Baby Girl's cute little San Fran cardi from Art Fibers. I've looked for a week in the house and just today finally e-mailed them to ask if I could order it again or something. It sucks so bad to loose a pattern! I've looked over and over again with no luck so far. It just fits her right now so I pretty much need to finish it in the next 7 days in order to let her wear it and get a cute photo.

I've barely been able to knit for the past month because of her bad sleeping habits (IE sleeping on me or with me at all times). So in the past two days I am only allowing her to take naps in her crib which has freed up a half an hour to an hour here and there. She still won't fall asleep on her own without nursing, that sucks the most. So I'm stuck to her pretty much all the time and as much as I love her I would like a little freedom. I was so happy when she was 2 months old and I had 2 free hours every evening to myself after she went to bed. Now she varies in when she will go to bed, 8pm, 9pm and sometimes as late as 11pm. I'm to tired after these struggles to do anything but sleep anyway. The night before last she woke up twice, I had to in turn nurse her to sleep 3 times before she was down for the night. Last night I refused to nurse her again, so I gave her a bottle and then I really can't remember how she went to sleep, I think the husbeast walked around with her until I was ready to try nursing again.

So I'm missing knitting, and I am a bit frustrated. She also wants to hold my hand when she nurses now so can't surf or e-mail. This soon shall pass I know but it's still frustrating! I hope I can finish the cute little cardi. I could brave it myself but I really want it to be right and I lack the time to think about button hole placement and all the planning etc.

She's dang cute though, makes up for the not so fun stuff!

Update: Turns out the pattern is available online, via a returned e-mail from the shop. Sad thing is I have no idea what needle size I used and I didn't record it on my blog or on ravelry, BAD KNITTER! I think it was a 7 and 9... I think!

She may be a total handful, but she is also very beautiful! Good luck getting the cardi finished (it's going to be so cute). I hope you regain some free time in the coming year!

All my babies went through that, too. The patterns change so often though, she'll soon be through this one on to the next. My middle child slept through the night when she was new and then somewhere around 5 or 6 months, she was on me all the time. It seems like they get more clingy when they are about to hit a developmental milestone. Of course they are all different. Now we know why babies are cute, right? =) It's bribery.

Oh no! Nevermind Pix - like yous aid it will pass with time - hang in there and get stuck into the cardi - just try whichever needle feels best, you'll feel happy just with the sticks in your hands again!! xo

Alright, I am going to tell you exactly what everyone told me when I was having the exact same problem with Reese a month ago...Stick to a schedule and let her cry it out. It is really hard, but it actually works (no matter how much I didn't want to believe it would.) I don't know hold old your baby girl is, but mine was 6 months when she really hit bottom with the sleep problems. In "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" it advises you to be on a nap schedule of naps at or around 9am, 1pm, and 4 or 5 pm, with a bedtime around 6 or 6:30pm. That didn't quite work for me so I modified it a bit, but It's working fabulously now and Reese is taking much longer naps. I think it helped that for that first week after I cracked down I would let her cry if she woke up too early from a nap, which was really hard but it only took a few days before she was sleeping longer. Also it really helped me to put her down for naps right when she started acting lethargic and not waiting for the eye-rubbing and fussy behavior. The early bedtime is also a real winner for getting her to sleep through the night.I know-weird huh?

Not to make this too long, but to break it down for you, here is our basic schedule:
7-8 am Reese wakes up(if she wakes up before 7 we let her cry a few minutes and she will usually go back to sleep).
8am-First Feeding
9am-Morning Nap(If she wakes up before 10:30 I don't go in and get her until then)
11am-Feeding
12pm-Afternoon Nap until 1:30 or 2pm
2pm-Feeding
The late afternoon nap is flexible for us, sometimes it's from 3-4pm if we are home, or from 4-5pm if I'm running errands too long.
5pm-Feeding/Bath/Pajamas/Story
6pm Bedtime
Then sometime between 10pm and 11pm she wakes up for one last feeding and usually falls asleep at the breast. Then she's in bed for the night and if she wakes up during the night I let her cry and she goes back to sleep. It helps me if I mentally give her 15 minutes. I figure if she is not asleep in 15 minutes then I can go in and comfort her, but it's not going to hurt her to cry for 15 minutes. She's usually asleep again in 10.

I hope this helps! I never wanted to be a person who is hyper-scheduled, but it has been so helpful for me. I feel like I am doing a better job as a mom this way because my baby is happy and healthy and not over-tired all the time. I know exactly how you feel! Don't worry, it gets better!

I am having issues with my son right now - he only wants to sleep in my bed or fall asleep in my arms - I don't know how else to put him to bed - and he's not breastfeeding anymore. I hear ya!

I have sooo been there! Before I went back to work, Junior got to where he'd only sleep on one of our chests. I slept on the couch every night with him, but that had to change when I had to get up early in the morning. The only thing that worked for us was a swaddler. I worship that thing. Of course now I'm afraid he won't ever be able to go to sleep without it...

Junior just started going to be earlier than 11 and it is nice. Wish he'd take a pacifier like your sweet girl seems to. Ah well.

And the obligatory Awwwwww! What a sweet little face.

Awwwwww! You poor thing! I could write the exact same post, really! Month 3-4 must be hard because my S is doing all the same things. We are getting to know her temper, that's for sure! S rarely naps in her crib, always on us, and she needs to be soothed at the breast. We are slowly seeing signs of hope (a nap today for 1/2 hr in crib!!), but we still need to work on it and work on more self-soothing. And I am pretty bummed too that I can't knit as much as I would like...I'm sure for both of us things will be looking up, or at least changing soon! Happy almost 4 months! And my goodness, Sydney is just so adorable!

I have to say that I slept with all my children and I had issues with their sleeping patterns and for a while it meant I had very little time to myself but, slowly over time they get out of it - all three of them have. I'm not saying my way is right or wrong - I just wanted to let you know that you do eventually get your life back! My only piece of advice would be to find what works for you and don't worry about what anyone else says!

Oh and by the way, she is one gorgeous girl!

cheers

hang in there, pixie, the 3-4 month time is tough and it does pass, but it can feel like forever. i know, we all say it, but you can do it. the non-knitting time will change too. hope the cardi gets a bit of wear, i have knits that they never even wore out, but they sure look darn cute in 'em. and baby girl is so cute....i am rooting for you. smiles.
