Still No Gas in Atlanta

Loves cheese like her dad

This about express's how we feel right now in Georgia. No gas, 1/3rd of stations have gas and many people run OUT of gas while waiting in line to get some. Many, many people at my work are working from home because of this. Luckily at my job that's a possibility, it's not for many other people who won't get paid if they can't get to work. I've heard the rest of the country isn't have a problem, even Texas and area's more heavily effected by Ike, the big question is why? As for those saying it's consumer's freaking out and topping off their tanks 24/7, well the experts are full of it. Everyone I know can't find gas, and no one is willing to wait in line for an hour burning gas, just to top off their tank. Most of us are simply filling up once a week IF WE CAN and then just not going anyplace except work and the grocery store.

BG has been sick sense friday (but on the mend) and I was bad sick yesterday, but today my head doesn't hurt nearly as much so I guess I'm on the mend too. I am crossing my fingers the husbeast doesn't get sick. As for knitting, I am working on a new fall/winter design, had to frog it when it was 80% done because I didn't like the speed at which I was decreasing for some shaping. I'll have pics soon once I have a cute FO to put on BG.

Here is some pretty yarn for you to look at;

Kauni Suprise

I want to squish it all day. I have in mind for it a very particular project but it involves some skills I don't currently have. Research time!

Knots of Yarn Closing - Cumming, GA

I just read on Ravelry that the shop is closing. The owner is one of the nicest yarn show owners I have ever met. Incredibly kind and encouraging. Word is stock including books is 30% off. They where the first store to carry one of my patterns actually and it was yarn from her store that inspired me to design my first pattern in the first place.

I assume they want to sell all the stock, so please stop by and help them clean up before closing down for good. I am really sad about this, I don't know why they are closing as they have only been open about a year. I am guessing bad timing with the economy, now is really not a good time for small business owners who sell non-essential goods.

Handknits for Holidays

The wonderful and creative Claudia put together a darling little Halloween/Thanksgiving theme top for Miss BG. I love it! I thought it was really cool that she used my Fruit Loop pattern as a sort of base for the silhouette.

I love the little twirling detail on the front with a crochet flower.

Thank you! Sooooo cute!

No Gas in North Georgia (that we can find)

Remember that expensive purse I mentioned buying? I returned it. I couldn't bring myself to wear it to work. I'm weird like that. Then I saw about 15 women at the mall with the same purse a few days later, added to the fact that it wasn't doing it for me. More money for yarn!

Oxford Kitchen Yarns BFL

Speaking of yarn purchases, I have been stalking Wollmeise though word is there won't be any new yarn until October. I just got some beautiful Oxford Kitchen BFL in a pretty lemon color-way, as she's about to go on hiatus with (aka giving birth to a child). She left me the sweetest little note in with the package. I can't wait to see pics of her little one. Newborns are just too wonderful for words.

Oh yeah, I had to work from home today (thank goodness I had my laptop) because THERE IS NO GAS HERE. Last night Claudia came over for a visit and realized as she was driving she didn't have enough gas to get home, and every station she stopped at, HAD NO GAS. The husbeast was on his way home and also stopped several places on his 30 mile trek home through atlanta and up north. NO GAS. We resorted to trying to get gas out of our honda's but apparently they are tamper proof. We resorted to lawnmower gas from the garage. Luckily on her way home the QT near our house had some gas. We made the mistake of not immediately going out to get some. I went out at 2pm today, waited in a gas-line for 30 minutes at the only place with gas near my house, and literally when I pulled up to my space in line to finally get gas, NO GAS. BG started screaming so I had to leave. Hopefully tonight the husbeast will be able to get some so I can go to work tomorrow.

In other yarn related news, Opal just came out with a huge line of Harry Potter theme sock yarn.

How I spend my time

I'm on a yarn diet, and suddenly experiencing a knitting slump when my knitting had seemed to be going so well. I spend part of my late evenings relaxing in the CPA Swap group on Ravelry. It's a lot of fun and a great way to get rid of yarn you know you won't knit with. My favorite thread to hang out in is the "BAD A55" thread because it has nicer yarn for picky people like me. There is a lot of junk yarn on there but if you learn which threads to watch and watch it on and off enough you can get lucky. I've gotten some Mmmmalabrigo, some pretty blue cherry tree sock yarn and some other really pretty pale aqua 100% wool that I can't remember the name of. I've seen socks that rock on there, and even a really cool Alice Starmore Aran knitting book. Join up but make sure to read all the rules first, it makes a world of difference in your enjoyment!

I'm working on knitting some very manly gray and black socks for the husbeast out of "Aussie Socks" because of course he would want socks made out of Australian wool. Plain vanilla socks always seem like a good cure for the knitting blues.

12 months (aka 1 year)

There are always so many little things BG does that I meant to write about but forget. When I was in Virginia for her birthday, I handed her a photograph of a baby photo of her while I was trying to put together a baby album, it was a spare and I figured it would keep her from grabbing the one's I was trying to get into the album. I wound up handing it to her upside down, and I watched her flip it right side up so the face was the correct direction. My mom said "that's not possible!" and we handed it to her about 5 more times and each time she did it. I don't know anything about child development so I can't really say how clever it really was and I'm not into comparing or talking about how smart a kid is because really, aren't all babies clever in their own way? It was pretty darn neat to watch and exciting to see she totally 100% knew what that picture was and how it should look.

Sydney's 1st Birthday

I was exhausted, and sick. I'm not sure if it was allergies or what but it was a sore throat that got worse, and then with all the talking I did I went pretty much horse by the time we drove home and it was even worse the next day. I was exhausted (this seem the norm these days) but I thought everything went well and it was nice to see family, some I had not seen IN FOUR YEARS.

Sydney's 1st Birthday

I used to babysit the two older girls, lots of fond memories. All 3 girls were in my wedding and I actually knit each of them really cute funky scarves. When the two older ones and their mom walked through the front door I screamed, and THEY screamed and it was this crazy kodak moment that I'll always cherish. They are all 3 the sweetest girls, the older two are sisters. Here they are in 2004 the last time I saw them. Big change huh?

The smaller girls mother (my favorite cousin!) helped me plan and put together the entire party, which I could have never pulled off without her. BG had been in a horrible mood from teething and a runny nose for 3 days before the party. Something wonderful happened and she was in the best mood ever on her birthday. She had a blast.

Sydney's 1st Birthday

BG had gone to daycare for 2 days prior to her birthday and my going to work, to get her ready. She had 2 great days. When we went on tuesday of this week, she wasn't so thrilled. Same with wednesday and thursday. She didn't have a horrible or super hard time, I think most mom's would have been thrilled, but she wasn't that happy when I picked her up. Thursday was a bit better, she seemed much happier when I picked her up. I think she caught on to the fact that when I leave her there it's for a long day. I don't really like leaving her there, at all. However, the place is great and each day I get her they spend loads of time talking to me and telling me about her day. We discuss all the mom stuff, food, drinking, napping.

Sydney's 1st Birthday

At 12 months BG loves to walk around, still loves to crawl. She pushes things and recently found the joys of opening cabinets. She still loves to open board books, look at stuffed toys, and dance to music. Her little personality is strong. She is a pro with a sippy cup and still very much the big eater.

Sydney's 1st Birthday

I'm sure there is more to write but I can't really think of anything. She's a little person now, and I can't wait to do so many knew and fun things with her. I'm looking forward to taking her to the fair in October. We have a trip to Disney World coming up in November. Lots of fun to be had soon!

back in business

Sydney's 1st Birthday

BG and I had a blast at her 1st birthday, so I owe the blog a "12 month" post soon. Tomorrow is my first day of work (sporting a new haircut and color to celebrate the change of lifestyle) so it might be a few days before I get around to it. I am knitting, but not currently happy with anything I am knitting. Knitting slump! I hate those.

Today we drove 8 hours home, making the trip in record time. I am nearly horse from a sore throat and then talking way to much on top of it, and when we got home the electricity was out for several hours so the house was 85 degree's. It was an adventure. I'm now in bed with the fan on and enjoying my last few hours as a stay at home mom. I keep thinking I have to set my alarm clock to wake me up, but I have this new alarm clock called BG that has never let me down, 7am here I come.

Anyone attending blogHer Atlanta? Just curious as I am thinking about going.
