Re distaffs: Long years ago I used to go with the Peachtree Handspinners and demo at the Renaissance Festival. For several years I just took my handspindle. One year I decided to make a distaff to use. I went out and found a branch with a fork, like the primitive distaffs you mentioned, and that I'd read about. I think I had wool wound around the branches so I could walk around and spin.
The sad thing was that several people told me I looked like I was carrying a giant Q-tip. Not exactly the effect I was looking for. :)
Wow, the cashmere debate is really out of control!
Great show Pixie. I hope you feel better soon.

I just discovered your podcast, and have been downloading past episodes to catch up. I really enjoy it. I listen to two other knitting podcasts regularly, and it's wonderful that everyone has their own style. I like your content--you have a good variety and some really great information in each episode.
I'm really enjoying your podcasts and get so much helpful information from each episode. You are doing a wonderful job :)
I hope that bug didn't bite too deep and your throat is OK.
Glad to hear the podcast - I enjoy listening to you and I'm glad to know that I am not the only one who struggles with how to pronounce some of the knitting terms / things / etc :) Thanks for the link to the Scatter pattern - it's great looking and I have that yarn!! I was planning to make a ChicKnits pattern (CeCe) out of it, but I screwed up the lace pattern somehow... Looking forward to the next podcast!
I've been listening to your podcasts all week--thank you so much for the fun listens!
I've listened to SO many podcasts lately and I have to say yours is in my top two favorites list! I love it - your witty and you keep the podcast fun and informative. Thanks for all the links and for making my hour and a half commute so bearable :-)
Wonderful show-I'll be back for more. Keep up the great work.
